About Services
SERVICE
A Service is any type of IT resource you can add to your research project.
The services available to add to a project depend on the Project Type.
Here, we list and give a quick definition of each service currently (or soon-to-be) available in Research Toolkits. For more detailed information on how to configure and use the various project services, please see the Services section of our documentation.
- RADID Virtual Machines: RAPID Virtual Machines (VMs) are pre-configured, computational resources provided to Duke faculty at no-cost to jump start research projects. These simple-to-set-up and easy-to-replace VMs are physically located on the Duke University network and have access to University resources, just like your Duke laptop or computer.
- Duke Compute Cluster: The Duke Compute Cluster (DCC) is a high throughput, high performance, parallel computing cluster for research support. Research Group Projects are given DCC access during project setup.
- Storage: There are a variety of storage types available for your research project depending on your needs. There is SMB storage which can be mounted to your Windows/Mac devices for easy sharing of data within your team. There is NFS storage that can be mounted to the DCC for high-computation analysis. And (coming soon), every project can add a Data Attic for long-term, cold storage of data not currently under analysis.
- Gitlab Group: Projects can add a Gitlab Group space which will automatically sync the Gitlab permissions with your Research Toolkits team structure.
