Get Started > Getting Access

Any member of the Duke community can log into Research Toolkits (via Shibboleth, Duke's standard sign-on mechanism). However, only certain members will have access to projects and services.

Faculty

All full-time faculty at Duke can immediately create basic, Self-Service Projects within Research Toolkits.

In order to create a new Research Group Project, faculty should contact Research Computing staff by emailing rescomputing@duke.edu or by booking an Office Hours appointment via Zoom with this online calendar.

Faculty needing to work with sensitive or regulated data can also create a project within the Protected Network for Research (PNR).

PhD Students

PhD students can claim one Individual Project, giving them basic access to the Duke Compute Cluster (DCC).

Others

Although other Duke community members cannot create their own projects, they can be added to any existing Self-Service Project, PNR Project, or Research Group.

Upon logging in, they will be directed to a link with all the Points-of-Contact for the existing Research Groups should they need to reach out to a researcher and request access to their project.

If there is a need for a non-faculty member to create their own project, please reach out to the Research Computing team and we will be happy to help!
